How to find the right industrial PC for your application
In the following, we will give you a few guidelines for selecting a suitable industrial PC for your application.

When it comes to selecting the right industrial PC (IPC), not only performance and equipment features play a role, but also the design or housing version should be considered from the outset.
The first question should be: How should the industrial PC be mounted?
Will the device be installed in the control cabinet, is wall or top-hat rail mounting planned or is a 19″ system required in the rack? The desired mounting method often greatly limits the appropriate device category.
Once the decision has been made regarding the design, the required computing power should be considered. Sufficient power reserves are generally useful, but – especially in 24×7 operation – can become a cost factor due to higher energy consumption and heat generation.
Furthermore, the required interfaces are crucial: Depending on the application, several LAN ports, serial interfaces (RS232/RS485), USB, digital I/Os or expansion options are required, for example. Future expansions should ideally be planned in right from the start.
You should also take a closer look at the planned location and the environmental conditions. Dust, humidity, vibrations, temperature ranges or contact with oil and other liquids are important factors for selecting the appropriate protection class, cooling and housing design.
This is how the industrial PC can be selected in a targeted manner – suitable for the application and reliable in daily use.
How much power is really needed?
When selecting the right hardware, the requirements depend heavily on the application. While the requirements are often clearly defined for individual applications, it becomes more complex with several parallel processes. Here, a performance test under real conditions helps more than theoretical assumptions.

Communication is everything
