When it comes to selecting the right industrial tablet, not only do the display size, performance, or wireless connections play a role, but the design and the protection or housing version should also be considered from the outset.

The first question to ask should be: How and where will the tablet be used?
Will it be used on the move, permanently mounted on a machine/station (e.g. via a docking station or VESA mount) or regularly moved between locations? The question of the charging and transfer concept (battery operation, hot-swap, docking) is also crucial here.

If the intended use is clear, the required performance should be considered. Sufficient power reserves are useful, but can – especially with long battery life or with 24/7 charging concepts – influence energy consumption and heat generation.

Furthermore, display and operation are important factors: Brightness, viewing angle, resolution, and touch technology (e.g. operation with gloves or in wet conditions) determine how reliably the tablet works in everyday use. Depending on the application, camera, scanner (barcode/RFID) or special keys also play a role.

You should also take a closer look at the planned location and the environmental conditions. Will the tablet come into contact with dust, water, oil or cleaning agents? Are there shocks, vibrations or large temperature differences? These points are decisive for the choice of the correct IP protection class, robustness (e.g. drop height) and housing design.
